Obituary

Amos Dial Salisbury was born in Goose Creek, Floyd County, Kentucky on March 18, 1932 to the late Dial and Rebecca Salisbury, one of ten children. In 1957, he married the love of his life, his wife of over sixty years, Regina Tackett. They have four children, starting with Connie Lynn (Lucas) Goble, William David (Laura), Jeffrey Amos (Christine) and Mary Jane (Bill) Freitas. Those children in time led to five grandchildren; Andrew Lucas, Mollie Rebecca, Raegan Michelle, Jeffrey Lee, and Abigail Rose; his Abby Rose. As one who values education and holds it dearly, Amos earned both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Morehead State University, after which he taught children for over 30 years before retiring to the farm that he and Regina bought in 1957 and on which they raised their children and spoiled their grandchildren. He passed on March 31, 2018, having left the world a better place for his efforts. From 1966 to 1989, Amos served as Principal at Eastern High School. Many who taught there would testify to his firm, yet just administration. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his students there (many of them his children, nieces or nephews), whose achievements were enabled in part by the work of he and his educational staff. On retirement he busied himself by traveling, reading, working various jobs, lamenting the failures and cheering the successes of Kentucky basketball, spoiling grandchildren and spending time with Regina. Amos is survived by his brother Fred and his sister Judy (Colvin); his passing is preceded by that of his brothers - Harold, Herman, Thomas, Dean, William and his sisters Helen (Webb) and Shirley (Stewart). To honor the legacy of Amos Salisbury, the family asks that you pursue with enthusiasm the honorable vocation of your choosing, whether academic or practical, and seek education where you might find it, be it formal or informal. Thus equipped, be willing to share your life with others, as he did, with your knowledge, insight and wisdom. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Greg Sowards officiating. Burial will be at Salisbury Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Online condolences may be sent to www.edafh.com.
