Clarence O. Lyons, 96, of Lucasville, died Sunday, September 04, 2016 at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. Born July 14, 1920 in Scioto County, a son of the late Oscar and Isabelle (Ruby) Lyons, he was a graduate of Valley Local School District and was a retired operator for Goodyear Atomic Corporation. He had attended the former Long Run United Methodist Church in Rubyville and was a World War II Army Air Force Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Alberta (Gray) Witten Lyons; two granddaughters, Jamie (Jay) Brown of Portsmouth, Laura (Ty) Williams of Minford; four great grandchildren, Justin Lee Brown, Gabby Brown, Kirsten Nicole (Cody) Paynter, Joshua Logan Alley; one great-great grandson Abel Alexander Paynter; a nephew John Hill of West Portsmouth, and 7 nieces: Judy Worhlet of Idaho, Elaine Bolen of Texas, Sheila Hegenberger of Columbus, Sally Breaky of Columbus, Susan Harris of Columbus, Sharon Stagg of Oregon, and Pat Deemer of Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Avonelle (Childers) Lyons in 1972; a son, David Lyons in 1974; a brother, Wesley I. Lyons; two sisters, Ruth F. Metzger, Dorothy Deemer and one step-son, Christopher Witten.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Mike Simpson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the James Irwin Post No., 622 and William Baker Post No. 363.
