Donald William Murphy, 93 of Minford passed away Friday, July 21, 2023 at SOMC Hospice. He was born June 11, 1930 in Fullerton, Kentucky, a son of the late Herbert Earl and Pauline Mayme Edwards Murphy. Don served in the U.S. Navy on USS Waldron DD699 for four years as a Sonar-man Second Class. After returning from the military he started his career at Goodyear Atomic in Piketon in 1954, retiring from Lockheed Martin in 1995. Throughout his life Don was an avid model airplane enthusiast, puzzle worker, Bible reader, family man, and devout husband. In his latter years Don enjoyed sitting on the porch swing with his wife, Dorothy. They would watch the wildlife while he drank his coffee and visited with friends & family. He attended Harrison Free Will Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Church.
He is survived his children, Karen (Ed) Smalley, Brenda Harris, Raymond (Sue) Wheeler, Jr., Tim Wheeler, Larry Wheeler, Danny (Tammy) Wheeler, Paul (Debbie) Wheeler, Paulette Phillips, Robert (Suzanne) Wheeler, Richard Wheeler, Randall (Shona) Wheeler; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Claudette Dorothy Spriggs Murphy on March 28, 2022, and three brothers, Richard Edward Murphy, Robert David Murphy, and James Earl Murphy.
Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Michael Wyatt officiating. Burial will be in Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363.
