Evelyn Jeraldine "Jerry" Groves, 94 , of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2019 at her residence. Born January 29, 1925, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Wilfred and Ruby Warnock Cook. She was a former employee of Williams Manufacturing. She was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, and is now a member of Madison Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Marjory Ann Bussa of Minford; one granddaughter, Evelyn (Mark) Burchett of Lucasville; two great grandchildren, Nathanial and Elayna Burchett; one brother, Dennis Cook, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ishmael Franklin Groves; a son-in-law, Richard "Larry" Bussa; four brothers, Billy David Cook, Thomas Cook, Paul Cook, and one in infancy, and three sisters, Faye Seever, Ruth Rhoden, and Vivian Burns.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Don Noel and Brother Roy Chaffin officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service on Tuesday.
