Henry Conner Mason, 64, of Portsmouth passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016. Born May 13, 1952 in Portsmouth, a son of Esther Goodwin Mason Crisp of Wheelersburg and the late Robert Raymond Mason, he was a graduate of Shawnee State University and majored in English/Humanities, he was self-employed as a DJ and lead singer for the band Flint. Mr. Mason is a past Editor of The Shawnee State University Silhouette, an arts magazine published in Portsmouth, Ohio. Under his leadership, the magazine received a first place award from the American Scholastic Press Association. Mr. Mason was published in many literary journals and collections worldwide and won the "Editor's Choice Award from the National Library of Poetry". He loved music and his family and was a member of Sunshine Church of Christ. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his step father, Eugene Crisp; two sons, Robert Lon Walters of Cleveland, Michael Baker of Flatwoods, Kentucky; three sisters, Kaye Mason (Tsuyoshi) Inoshita, Dianne Mason (Stephen) Clemens, Robin Mason (Randy) Wright; one step-brother, David Crisp, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a step sister, Gina Crisp Anderson. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Inoshita and his staff at Portsmouth Care Associates, SOMC Hospice and Best Care Nursing & Rehab Center's staff for their loving care.
Funeral services will be conducted at Noon Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Jason Coriell officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to Noon Tuesday prior to the service.
