Obituary

James Alfred Parker, 74, went to his heavenly home Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Best Care Nursing & Rehab Center in Wheelersburg after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 24, 1943 to the late James T. and Thelma (Hunt) Parker. He attended Valley High School, where he excelled in sports. He was voted the Most Valuable senior baseball player in 1961. He was a graduate of Marshall University in 1964, where he was on the baseball team, a member of Student Government and the Green Club. He is a retired Financial Advisor with Woodbury Financial. He operated Parker & Associates for many years in Portsmouth. He was a member of Berean Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and choir member. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Coles) Parker whom he married February 14, 2007; two sons, James Richard (Tonya) Parker and children, Madison and Ben of Huntington, West Virginia, and David Charles (Jennifer) Parker and children Katelyn and Justin of Los Angeles, California; one daughter, Amy (Rick) Stowell and sons, Seth and Grant of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother, Thom (Carole) Parker of West Bloomfiled, Michigan and a sister, Marlena (Kevin) McCluer of Baltimore, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Amelia Copen. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Berean Baptist Church in Sciotoville with Pastor Steve Mann officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
