John Eugene Malott, 76, of Minford, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth. Born February 20, 1941in Portsmouth, a son of the late Fred and Eva (Penix) Malott, he worked at the former Empire Detroit Steel Corp., he had worked for Madison Township, and the U.S. mail. He was also a member of the Portsmouth Moose Lodge and the New Boston Eagles. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Smith; a son, David Leroy (Carol) Ratliff of Grayslake, IL; two daughters, Wendy Malott, Lori Malott both of Minford; three grandchildren, Tyler Malott, Clifford Ratliff, Sarah Ratliff; two step-daughters, Penny (Rick) Carver, Kathy (Tony) Crabtree; two step-sons, Jeff Puckett, Jerry (Bobbie Jo) Puckett; eleven step-grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Letha (Greenhill) Malott; a son, Rusty Ratliff, and a step-son, Scott Puckett. Funeral services will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Gerald Penix officiating.
