Obituary

John E. Simpson, 92 , of Lucasville, Ohio, the beloved husband of Judy (Shonkwiler) Simpson of more than 70 years, passed away Thursday, August 15 at Best Care Health and Rehabilitation in Wheelersburg after a brief illness.

John was born September 6, 1931 in Portsmouth, Ohio to parents Albert Simpson, Sr. and Ruth (Leist) Simpson.  He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1948 at the age of 16.  He graduated from Portsmouth Interstate Business College in 1951.  He served in the United States Air Force from March, 1951 to December, 1954.  He received a Bachelor of Arts in Ancient History and Classical Languages from The Ohio State University in March, 1959 and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.  He also received a Master of Arts in American History from Ohio State in August, 1969.  He taught Latin, American History, and Psychology for 32 years, from 1960-62 at Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati and from 1962-92 at Glenwood High School in New Boston.  He enjoyed fishing with his family and teaching colleagues, building model airplanes, and reading about history and science.  He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.

John is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Jerri of Tallahassee, Florida, son John, Jr. (Alita) of Cincinnati, grandchildren Jennifer Simpson and Douglas Turk, step grandchildren Katie Glardon and Kurt Glardon, and several great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Albert, Jr., brother George, and daughter Jill Evans.
