Larry Lee Howard, 70, of Portsmouth passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Southern Ohio Medical Center. Born June 18, 1945 in Portsmouth, a son of the late Drusie (Howard) Tackett, he was a retired ironworker with Local 769, and was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years and best friend, Linda Kay (Shonkwiler) Howard, whom he married on June 19, 1965; a son, Darrin Lee (Gina) Howard; three grandchildren, Cory Lee Howard, Darrin Lee Howard (Jr.), Dalton Lee Howard; one great-grandchild, Baylee Lynn Guido; four sisters, Margie Keller, Kathy (Sid) Glaze, Glenda (Mark) Lykins, Gail Kennedy; an uncle, Dave (Doloris) Howard; a sister-in-law, Willa (Art) Marion; two brothers-in-law, Keith (Patty) Shonkwiler, Walt Shonkwiler; several nieces and nephews; close friend Glen Howard, and Cory and Devon Bradley. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Mose Tackett; grandparents, Alf and Pearlie Howard; a brother Gary Wayne Tackett, and his mother and father-in-law, Alafair and Gene Shonkwiler. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Mike Simpson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens near Franklin Furnace. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
