Obituary

Louretta Reed, 88, of Stockdale, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Bristol Village in Waverly. She was born on November 10, 1937, in Dickenson County, West Virginia, to the late William Jennings and Goldie Mae Mullins, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her students, her church, and her community.

Louretta earned her Bachelor’s degree in teaching and dedicated her professional life to the care and guidance of children. She was a kindergarten teacher for Beaver and Minford Schools and later served as a guidance counselor at Minford Primary School. In each of these roles, she gave of herself with patience, compassion, and a steady commitment to helping young lives grow and flourish.

Her faith and community ties were also an important part of her life. Louretta was a member of Stockdale United Christian Church, the Stockdale Homemakers Club, and Project Linus. Through these connections, she shared her warmth and caring spirit with many, leaving a lasting impression on those around her.

On June 30, 1956, she married Russell Reed, Jr. who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers C.R. Mullins, Larry Mullins, Billie Ray Mullins, Charles Mullins, Ersil Mullins, Don Mullins, and her half brother Noah “Butch” Mullins.

Louretta’s memory will be cherished by her family, who were a central part of her life. She is survived by her son, Gary Del (Dawn) Reed; her daughter, Pamela (Buddy) Simpkins; seven beloved grandchildren, Brandon Reed, Megan (Matt) Hines, Amanda (Arvind) Simpkins, Amy (Cameron) Heffler, Sarah Simpkins, Kevin (Kelsey) Reed, Hannah Simpkins; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann (Doug) Richardson; her half brothers and sisters, Chris, Ronnie, Bobbie, Scott, Connie, Ginger, Debbie, Willie, and Paula, along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Stockdale United Christian Church with Aaron Swango officiating. Burial will be at Stockdale Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Louretta Reed will be remembered with love for the life she built, the children she taught, the faith she carried, and the family she held close. Her legacy lives on in all who were blessed to know her.
