Velma McCall, 89, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2017. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Allen McCall; and her second husband, Carroll Creech. She is survived by her sister, Rachel Buxton of Croton, OH, and many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Velma was passionate about nursing. She enjoyed mentoring younger generations of nurses and loved reminiscing about her time and adventures as a nursing student in Zanesville School of Nursing, Army Nurse Corps. Through her 40 plus year career, her nursing knowledge, expertise, and giving spirit touched hundreds of patients and their families. Velma was active in her church and served in numerous areas including women's fellowship, organizing potlucks, and Christmas programs. She loved writing-poems, plays, letters, and in her journal. Velma will be remembered for her determination, love of animals, zest for living, and love for the Lord. The family invites family and friends to attend a Memorial Service being held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 2:30 pm at the Stockdale United Christian Church in Stockdale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Velma's charity of choice, St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain, South Dakota. Arrangements are under the direction of Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home.
