Zepha Mae Carter, 78, of Dutch Ridge Road, Portsmouth, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. Born January 6, 1938 in Pueblo, Colorado, a daughter of the late Hayden and Gladys (Osborn) Hunt, she belonged to the Cherokee Tribe in Albany, Georgia. She was a former employee for Doerr & Associates, Flannery Nursing Home and was a case manager for the Dept. of Human Services. She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Carter, whom she married on May 27, 1953 in Norwalk, Ohio; three sons, Robert H. Carter, John (Anita) Carter, Scott (Kelli) Carter; two daughters, Teri (Bill) Bowling, Sandy (David) Rader; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Bailey; three sisters, Betty Treadway, two other sisters in infancy and two grandchildren.
