Garnet Lindeman Obituary

Garnet Christine (Russell) Lindeman, 87, of Graham Lane, Lucasville, OH, died peacefully on October 26, 2019, at the home of her daughter, Nancy, with whom she had been living since she became ill in September, 2013.  She was a member of Sunshine Church of Christ, where her memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at 1:00 pm.  There will also be visitation at the church on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00, and before the service on Wednesday starting at 12:00 noon.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Martyn Lindeman, whom she married on August 19, 1950; her parents, Marion Raymond and Hilery Lovetta (Durham) Russell; her sister, Margaret Ann (Russell) Partridge; a grandson, Heath Alan Lindeman; one great grandchild; and two great, great grandchildren. She is survived by her five sons:  James (Sue), Michael (Joyce), Daniel (Carleta), Scott, and Jeffrey; her three daughters:  Nancy Taylor, Jean (Corky) Dempsey, and Jane (Peter) Ruggles; 29 grandchildren;  25 great-grandchildren; 2 great, great-grandchildren; her brother, David (Ellen) Russell; one sister-in-law, Helen Lindeman Russell; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. When her family was young, she worked several years as a nurses’ aide.  As her children became older, she attended college (eventually earning her Masters’ Degree) and began her teaching career.  Initially she taught at the Head Start program, then moved on to become a sixth grade teacher at Minford, Ohio, from which she retired in 1998. For several years, when their family was young, Jim and Garnet’s side yard was the neighborhood ‘ballpark.’  Garnet was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, and Jim was the pack master.  When their children began to marry and move away, the home at Graham Lane became the gathering place.  Every weekend their children and grandchildren would pile in to enjoy a large meal and play games together.  Garnet always hosted holidays for the family (which grew to nearly 60 members,) and would crowd all of them into her small house for a fun celebration. After her husband died in 1988, she spent summers with her sister going on vacations.  In addition to the several they took within the continental US and Canada, they went to Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, England, Scotland, Wales, France, Italy, and Greece.  After her retirement, she took up bowling and bowled with leagues 3 days per week.  She also enjoyed playing cards/games with several different groups of friends on a weekly basis.  She attended many sporting events to watch her grandchildren compete and enjoyed many activities with her friends at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation in Garnet’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Compassion International at 12290 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80921-3668.
