George Addison Taylor, Jr., 66, of Portsmouth passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at SOMC Hospice. He was born June 29, 1958 in Trenton, New Jersey, a son of the late George A. Taylor, Sr. and Cecilia Johnson Taylor, he was a firefighter and worked for the call center at AAA. George was a life member of Hope Fire Company #1, past chief of Groveville Fire Department and New Egypt Fire Department. He was a pitcher and first baseman for multiple softball leagues in the Bordentown, Hamilton Township, and Mercer County, New Jersey area.
He is survived by his wife, Amy McClaskey-Taylor; one step-daughter, Tiffany (Josh) Shelley; three grandchildren, Kameron, Richard, David; one sister, Cindy Van Pelt; nieces and nephews, Jeff Fenton, Tara (Troy) Gonzales, Roxi Van Pelt (fiancé, Thomas Viviano), Abby McClaskey, Cassandra McClaskey, and his mother-in-law, Debbie McClaskey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one step-son, Joshua McClaskey; one sister and brother-in-law, June and Delmar Fenton, and one brother-in-law, Ted Van Pelt.
Funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2024 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent to www.edafh.com.
