Larry Edward Rupp was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was 91 when he left this world on Thursday, August 10, 2023. Larry lived a long and full life. His passion for public service and education benefited all.
Larry was born on March 10, 1932, in Cincinnati. He was the only child of George W. and Thelma (Robbins) Rupp. After graduating from Wellston High School in 1950, Larry attended Ohio University on a football scholarship cut short by his enlistment into the United States Navy. Larry served during the Korean Conflict and received his Honorable Discharge in 1954.
Larry pursued his love of psychology and education by attending Otterbein College and graduating with his bachelor’s degree in 1968. He attended Xavier University and graduated with his master’s degree in 1973. Larry retired from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections as Deputy Warden after a 26-year career.
Larry’s love for education opportunities allowed him to be part of a 4-member curriculum committee tasked with developing Ohio’s first college-accredited two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Corrections Technology.
Larry then developed and implemented an internship program for criminal justice/behavioral science college students to serve within a correctional institution. Students from The Ohio State University, Ohio University, Xavier University, Shawnee State University, and Hocking College participated in the internship program.
Larry was also an Adjunct Faculty Instructor for 39 years. Over his 39-year career, he taught courses at Xavier University, Ohio University, Morehead State University, Rio Grande University, Shawnee State University, and Hocking College.
Larry was a life-long member of many organizations, which include Lucasville Masonic Lodge # 465, 32nd Degree and Shrine, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Lions, Honorary Order of Kentucky Colonels, and Lucasville Emmanuel Church.
Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sara “Sally” Rupp, whom he married in Wellston, Ohio, on December 21, 1963, and his grandson, Gavin E. Rupp.
He is survived by Mark Rupp of Bainbridge, Chris Rupp of Ashburn, VA, Sigrid (John) Wolford of Lucasville, and former daughter-in-law Sandy Rupp of Ashburn, VA. His grandchildren Mark Rupp II of Bonita Springs, FL., Tracy (John) Brill of Bainbridge, Lauren (Paul) Cichocki of Ashville, Drew Wolford of Lucasville, Ian Rupp of Ashburn, VA, Abby Rupp of Ashburn, VA, and great-grandchildren Lexi, Lily and Lea Rupp of Bonita Springs, FL, and Blake Cichocki of Ashville.
