Rita Carpenter Obituary

Rita Cathleen Cornell Carpenter, 90, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at her residence. She passed peacefully in her sleep. She was born October 3, 1932 in Buffalo, WV, a daughter of the late Henry Clayton and Amanda Cornell.

Rita was the loving wife of Cecil Carpenter for over 70 years, and a long time resident of Minford, Oh.  She and Cecil moved from Vinton, Oh in 1970.  Rita was a member of the High Praises Church of God.

Those who knew her remember her frequent phone calls, her quick wit, and her constant helping hand.  She never locked her doors and welcomed all who entered them with open arms.  She was always a champion for the downtrodden and a fierce momma to her four children, Cathleen (Tim-deceased) Mathis, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Carpenter, Christina ((Rick) Compton, and Julie (Scott) Maxfield, mawmaw to her grandchildren (11), great grandchildren (22), and great-great grandchildren(2).

Rita will be greatly missed by her loving husband, all her family and those who knew her.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Dean Thompson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent to www.edafh.com.

My mawmaw’s house:

My Mawmaw’s house was always full of love and people. It was comfortable to everyone who entered, I believe this is from what you feel when prayer is sort of baked in the walls for many years.  Layers upon layers of intercession made for family and friends, trials went thru and perseverances overcome.  She never turned anyone away or ever locked her door.  She stood fiercely in your corner even when you were wrong because you were hers and she had your back.  The heritage of a praying mawmaw is one that will be forever cherished.  The matriarch of our family and the constant in which the rest of us could anchor to when life was out of control., because she was securely anchored in the Lord.  When we were living afar off we could trust she was making intercession and praying a blanket of protection upon us.  We felt this blanket and it gave us immeasurable confidence and strength in our weakest moments.  Her legacy lives on through us and we will forever feel her imprint on our lives.  Oh how I will truly miss this woman of faith and mawmaw to me.
