Shirley Katherine Brafford, 88 of Minford went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Concord Health & Rehabilitation Center. Shirley was born January 1, 1935, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Warren and Jessie Wiget Schuler. She was a Clay High School graduate of 1953, a retired records librarian at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant and attended Minford United Methodist Church.
Shirley loved to cheer on her Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed working in flowers and gardening. Before her illness took her mobility she was very active in her church teaching Sunday school and later in life she enjoyed listening to her grandson sing and preach. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Lester, of 67 years and in her final years enjoyed spending time with him, correcting and directing him and battling over the remote. She was a doting grandmother to her three grandsons and loved to watch and cheer at their sporting events any chance she was able.
She is survived by a daughter, Kristi (Keith) Wiehle, and three grandsons, Joshua Wiehle, Samuel Wiehle, and Zebadiah Wiehle along with several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lester Brafford on January 21, 2022; two sisters, Darlene Goad and Dorothy McGlone, and one brother, George Schuler.
A special thank you to all the caregivers that have helped care for Shirley during the past few years for all the love, patience and care they provided. A special thank you to all the Hospice workers who helped with care and comfort during the past several months.
Graveside services will be conducted at noon Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Rosemount Cemetery with Pastors Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford. Online condolences may be sent to www.edafh.com. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to SOMC Hospice, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
