Shirley Jean Millar, 80, of Lucasville, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the OSU James Medical Center in Columbus. She was born December 26, 1944, in Pike County, Ohio, the only daughter of the late Thomas Mays, Jr. and Wilma Jean (Keplinger) Mays.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kristin Preston; granddaughter, Brynley Preston; and her beloved “Sweetie,” Bill Gundlah.
A graduate of Valley High School (1962) and Ohio University, Shirley dedicated 33 years to teaching first and third grade in the Valley Local School District, with nearly 30 of those years spent at Glendale School in Clarktown. She especially cherished her time at Glendale, where she considered her fellow teachers, staff members, and students as an extended family.
Among her most treasured memories were showing American Saddlebred horses alongside her daughter, Kristin; supporting her granddaughter, Brynley, in her academic and athletic pursuits; and spending her last eight years with Bill, the love of her life.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford, with Tim Palla officiating. Visitation will take place two hours prior, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Wheelersburg. Online condolences may be sent to www.edafh.com.
