Wilma "Wid" Shonkwiler Obituary

Wilma {Wid} Jane Nance Shonkwiler peacefully passed away to meet her Lord on April 19, 2021 at the SOMC Hospice Center.

She was born to the late Howard and Mamie Nance on 11/02/1928.  She worked for General Motors in Columbus before she returned to Scioto County where she married George David Shonkwiler on August 19, 1950 and they built their home and raised a family where she was a homemaker.

She was of the Baptist Faith and attended Rubyville Community Church.   For many years she was a member of the Minford Women’s Club.   She enjoyed church, family time, cooking,  and traveling to Nashville, Tenn with her church family.

Preceded in death is her husband, George, on August 24, 1999. Two sons, Infant Baby Boy in 1962 and Howard Dennis Shonkwiler on July18, 2019.  Her brother, Howard Darrel Nance and her brother-in-law, Curtis Conkel.

Survivors include 5 sons, Michael {Olivia} Robertson, David {Sandy} Shonkwiler, Timothy Shonkwiler, Gregory{Pam}Shonkwiler,  Mark Thomas Shonkwiler.  2 Daughters, Kimberly {Michael} McRoberts, and Lori Ann Conley {Joe Ramey}.  Grandchildren Keith {Becky} Shonkwiler, Cindy {James} Craft, LeeAnn {Jason} Storey, Darren Shonkwiler, April {Grant} Keller, Andrew {Faith} Shonkwiler, Kayla {Zach} McCoy, Arrika {Daniel} Mains, Mark Shonkwiler, Cody McRoberts, Dustin Robertson, and Kristin McRoberts.  Great-granchildren Taylor & Matthew Shonkwiler, Brandon and Braylee Schreick, Hope, Mariah, and Lana Craft, Jake & Eli Storey, Gunnar & Kase Shonkwiler, Josie & Remington Mains, Anderson & Blake Shonkwiler, Maverick McRoberts, Izaiha & Weston Robertson, and Letti Reynolds.   A Great-great granddaughter, Ivy Schreick.  A step great grandson Christian Porter and step great-great granddaughter Adreanah Porter. Also surviving is her sister, Betty Conkel.  A nephew, Mark Conkel, 6 nieces, Cathy Jane Scott {her name sake} Anita McGinnis, Lynn Hotzapfel, Pam Higgins, Shannon Bowie, and Lacy Nance.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to her long time neighbors, Jeff, Sandy & Jeffrey Glynn, her special friend & caregiver Cathy Coffman, her Hospice Nurse Kim Brown and the entire staff of the SOMC Hospice Center for their wonderful care in preparing her for her home in heaven.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2020 at Rubyville Community Church with Pastors Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer officiating. Burial will be in Bennett Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Jared “Hammer” Dever Memorial Scholarship Fund @ Atomic Credit Union, Account #187885 or SOMC Hospice, 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.
